Daily 5 & Math Stations
Hopefully you've heard your child talking about Daily 5 & Math Stations! These are both management systems set up in our room that allow students to practice skills in an authentic, non-worksheet way while I am meeting with small groups.
Daily 5 is the language arts model that consists of 5 components:
Read to Self - Students are reading "just right books" that are on their level.
Read to Someone - Students are reading "just right books" to buddies.
Listen to Reading - Students are listening to stories on iPads, cds, or computers (This is GREAT for fluency!)
Word Work - Students are working on phonic and grammar activities
Work on Writing - Students are writing stories, letters, etc.
Math Stations:
During Math Stations students will be doing several math activities. They will be working on math games independently or with a buddy, using manipulatives to understand math concepts in a concrete way, doing activities to increase number sense, writing about math and reading math books.
